Godfrid Wessely

Godfrid Wessely (born January 31, 1934 in Groß-Inzersdorf ) is an Austrian geologist.

Life

Wessely attended secondary school in Zwettl and Krems an der Donau and received his doctorate in 1959 from the University of Vienna on the geology of the Hainburg mountains . After that he was an external member of the Federal Geological Institute and was entrusted with mapping tasks. From 1959 he was an exploration geologist at the Austrian Mineral Oil Administration (ÖMV), where he became chief geologist in 1985. He supervised deep drilling, e.g. B. to explore the limestone Alps underground in the Vienna Basin , which were the prerequisite for the exploitation of the existing oil and gas fields, but also provided new geological knowledge of the Alpine structure, the Molasse zone and the Vienna Basin.

He has been married since 1959 and has four children.
