Godoy Cruz is the capital of the department of Godoy Cruz in the province of Mendoza in Argentina . It has 191,000 inhabitants according to the 2010 census and is part of the metropolitan area of ​​the provincial capital Mendoza ( Gran Mendoza )

history

Godoy Cruz was originally known as Villa de San Vicente (since 1872) and then as Villa Belgrano (1889). On February 9, 1909, it received its city status and its current name, as a tribute to Tomás Godoy Cruz , who represented the province of Mendoza in the Congress of Tucumán and was also provincial governor and legislator.
