description

The golden cane bamboo has dense, narrow, upright, pale green to sun yellow stalks and is 2.5 to 4 meters high. The leaves are light green, 10 cm long and 1 to 2 cm wide.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 48.

etymology

Phyllostachys comes from the Greek and means something like: "leafed ear", a reference to the inflorescence with leaves. aurea [Latin] means "golden" and refers to the golden-colored stalks.

distribution

The golden cane bamboo comes from subtropical areas in southern China in the provinces of Fujian and Zhejiang to Vietnam.

use

In China, walking sticks and fishing rods are made from the stalks, and knobs for umbrellas are made from the rhizomes.

Use in the garden

The golden bamboo is very suitable as a privacy screen or hedge. He is easy to cultivate and adaptable.
