Goldrush is an indie band from Oxfordshire , England . Their musical style is reminiscent of Nick Drake , The Flaming Lips and Grandaddy .

history

Goldrush was founded by the brothers Robin and Joe Bennett under the name Whispering Bob , named after the well-known DJ "Whispering" Bob Harris in England. Under this name they released their first EP Same Picture on their own label Truck Records . Just before the band signed with Virgin Records in 2001 , they changed the band name to Goldrush . At first the band consisted of the brothers Robin and Joe Bennett, Garo Nahoulakian, Jef Clayton and G Roby. However, Jef Clayton left the band in 2003 and was replaced on the electric bass by Growler.

Their first long player Don't Bring Me Down was released in 2002, but at the end of the year the band was dropped from Virgin Records. So in 2002 they released their next album Extended Play and in 2004 the EP Ozona again on their own label Truck Records. In the USA, an album version of Ozona was released by Better Looking Records in 2005 , which sold well there. In 2007 the album The Heart Is The Place followed , which the band again produced and marketed themselves.

Trivia

  • Robin Bennett was inspired by the band name when one day working in a SPAR store he served DJ Whispering Bob.
  • The EP Ozona is named after a place of the same name in Texas where the band broke down while on tour in the USA .
  • The Bennett brothers host the annual Truck Festival with family and friends at Hill Farm in Steventon , Oxfordshire.
