The Gulf of Batabanó ( Spanish : Golfo de Batabanó ) is a bay or strait southwest of Cuba in the Caribbean Sea and separates the main island of Cuba from the Isla de la Juventud ( Isla de Pinos ).

The northern limit of the gulf forms the southern coast of Cuba in the provinces of Pinar del Río , Artemisa , Mayabeque and Matanzas . In the east, the Gulf extends to the Zapata Peninsula and thus has an extension of around 130 kilometers from east to west and around 80 kilometers from north to south. The water is very shallow with a maximum depth of 61 meters. It also includes around 350 smaller islands in the Canarreos Archipelago .

In the Gulf there is a center of sponge mining .
