Gonçalo Cadilhe

Gonçalo Luís Vergueiro Ribeiro Cadilhe (born May 24, 1968 in Figueira da Foz ) is a Portuguese travel writer .

Life

Cadilhe was born in the seaside resort of Figueira da Foz, where he still lives today. He studied business management at the Catholic University in Porto (graduated in 1992), and during that time also attended the Escola de Jazz music school . After a short time in corporate management, he went on a trip for the first time in 1993 to pursue his newly chosen profession as a travel writer. Since then he has written ten books, some of them very successful. His first book from 2005 is now in its eighth edition. So far (8/2012) he has produced three travel documentaries for the public television channel RTP2 . With his book Nos Passos de Magalhães (dt. About: In the footsteps of Magellan) he documented the journey he undertook in 2008 on the trail of the circumnavigation of the world by the Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan (1480–1521). He undertook it according to the historical model and in accordance with his conviction that trips are only valuable if they are undertaken slowly and as close to nature as possible and environmentally friendly, with many unadulterated impressions, for example through contact with the local residents and without distortion from the strong presence of the tourism industry .

Cadilhe wrote regularly for various magazines, including Grande Reportagem , Blitz and SurfPortugal , and gave columns in various newspapers, such as the Expresso . He also works as a tour guide for selected trips for the Portuguese travel companies Pinto Lopes Viagens and Nomad - Evasão e Expedições .

Cadilhe is the nephew of the bank manager and former finance minister Miguel Cadilhe (* 1944).
