Gonocerus insidiator is a bug from the family of the border bugs (Coreidae).
features
The bugs are 11-14 mm long. Head, neck plate (pronotum) Hemielytren , scutellum (tag) and sensor are reddish brown. The legs are colored yellow-green, but the femora and tibia can be partly red-brown. The ventral side of the bedbugs is yellow to yellow-green in color. The pronotum has a pointed corner on each side that is curved upwards and slightly forward. The head is shorter than the pronotum. The pronotum corners protrude beyond the abdomen and the connexive. The corium has only small spots, no larger spots. The membrane is smoky gray with a bronze sheen.
Similar species
The following similar types of bugs can be found in the Mediterranean region:
- Gonocerus acuteangulatus - pronotum with corners is narrower than the abdomen with connexive
- Gonocerus juniperi - head almost as long as the pronotum; Corium with brown-black spots
- Plinachtus imitator - two black longitudinal bands along the outer rear edge of the head;
distribution
Gonocerus insidiator is widespread throughout the Mediterranean . The species is also represented in the Canary Islands .
Way of life
The host and food plants of the bedbugs include the mastic bush ( Pistacia lentiscus ), the western strawberry tree ( Arbutus unedo ) and rock roses ( Cistus ). Further, as host plants oaks ( Quercus ), pistachio ( Pistacia ), daphne ( Daphne ), phlomis ( Phlomis ) and lavender ( Lavandula called). The bugs suck on the fruits of the trees. The species overwinters as an imago.
