Gonzalo Farrugia

Luis Gonzalo Farrugia (* in Treinta y Tres ; † January 9, 2009 in Montevideo ) was a Uruguayan drummer . He was a member of the groups Psiglo , Níquel , Porsuigieco and Crucis .

career

Together with César Rechac, Luis Cesio, Jorge García Banegas and Ruben Melogno, he founded the group Psiglo around 1971 , which became one of the most important in South American rock music. European media even classified them among the 20 most important groups in the "Progressive Hard Rock" genre, alongside bands such as Uriah Heep and Deep Purple . After the coup in Uruguay, he moved to Buenos Aires. Here he joined both the Porsuigieco project and the band Crucis . At the end of 1978 he went to the Mexican city of Tijuana. Here he founded the municipal band (Banda Municipal de Tijuana) together with Francisco Javier García in 1980. In the course of his musical career he also appeared on stage with the artists Eduardo Mateo and Jorge Nasser or the Argentines León Gieco , Charly García , David Lebón , Pappo Napolitano and Alejandro Lerner . On January 9, 2009, Farrugia put an end to his own life. In his honor, the musician Jorge Barral ( Opus Alfa , Días de Blues ) composed the song "Es pa 'tí" in collaboration with Farrugia's bandmates Rubén Melogno and César Rechac.
