Allo was an instant messaging - service from Google . The software included the intelligent personal assistant : Google Assistant and a "smart answer" feature that automatically suggested an answer. history

Allo was featured at Google I / O on May 18, 2016 and released on September 21, 2016. To use it, a phone number was required, as you don't have to log in with a Google account by default .

Since only around 50 million users installed the app - compared to more than a billion for Facebook apps - the development of allo was stopped in April 2018. Since then, product development has concentrated on the Google Messenger 'Chat' and the Rich Communication Services (RCS) protocol .

Since October 20, 2016, Google Allo understood English as well as German.

Functions

Allo used the phone number to register and identify users.

Allo's “clever answer” function suggested suitable answer options to users. Photos sent were also analyzed to suggest answers. As in Google's inbox app, Allo learned from user behavior in order to get to know interests and bring suggestions for further messages. Allo supported the Google Assistant , a virtual entertainment assistant.

Before a picture is sent, a drawing could be made on the picture.

Private mode

The private mode was used to automatically delete messages and protect them with end-to-end encryption during transmission. The signal protocol was used for encryption .
