Google Desktop was a desktop search program . It was developed by Google Inc. and made it possible to search for files , e-mails , chat logs etc. on your own computer . For searches, it offered a user interface similar to the in-house search engine, Google, and some extensions for the Windows taskbar and desktop.
Development on the Google Desktop as well as support and the API were discontinued on September 14, 2011.

and numerous others (some of which can be expanded with plugins). It should be noted that with most data sources only the first 10,000 characters are searched. The initial indexing will record a maximum of 100,000 files per drive. Additional files are only included in the index through real-time indexing on opening and copying.

Data privacy advocates warn against the search function across multiple computers, which version 3 of Google Desktop already offered.
