Goophone ( Chinese  穀 峯 , Pinyin gǔ fēng ) is a manufacturer of smartphones and tablet computers headquartered in Shenzhen in the People's Republic of China . Goophone has been known since the beginning of the 2010s for its replicas of current, high-priced smartphones that are not licensed in the EU and North America . Examples are replicas from the smartphone manufacturer Apple , such as B. the iPhone 6 , copied as Goophone i6, and the iPhone 7 as Goophone i7. Other replicas are the Samsung Galaxy S and the Samsung Galaxy S5 , copied as Goophone S5, from the Korean smartphone manufacturer Samsung .

equipment

Goophone mobile devices are designed to look similar to the original devices. Among other things, this includes the design of the housing, logos and designations. The original hardware is not used, like the Apple A10 Fusion , but inexpensive hardware components like the processors MT6735, MT6582 or MT6592 from MediaTek are installed. The software is not Apple's iOS either , but an Android , which is based on the iOS in terms of the interface, the design of the icons and the type of operation. It is not possible to access the iTunes Store . Basically, the Goophone devices are fully functional cell phones within the scope of their technical equipment, but in contrast to the original devices with poorer technical performance data. On the other hand, the prices of the replicas are well below the prices for the original devices at under 25%.

Patent dispute

In contrast to other manufacturers who manufacture unlicensed products, Goophone is characterized by a longer presence on the market and a high rate of adaptation when implementing replicas. Some of the replicas appear before the official start of sales of the original devices. In 2012, when the iPhone 5 was rebuilt in the form of the Goophone i5, Goophone designed the replica on the basis of previously published concept images, then patented this design in China and placed it on the Chinese market as its own device. Goophone then initiated proceedings so that Apple was initially unable to sell the iPhone 5 on the Chinese market due to patent infringement.
