Gopeshwar , also Chamoli Gopeshwar , is a small town in the Indian state of Uttarakhand .

The city is the capital of the Chamoli district . Gopeshwar has the status of a Nagar Palika Parishad . The city is divided into 9 wards . It had a total of 21,447 inhabitants on the cut-off date of the 2011 census, of which 11,432 were men and 10,015 were women. Hindus form the largest group of the city's population with a share of approx. 96%, followed by Muslims with approx. 4%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 78.82%.

Gopeshwar is well connected by roads and accessible all year round. The nearest airport is located at Jolly Grant in Dehradun and is around 227 kilometers from Gopeshwar. The nearest train station is at Rishikesh at a distance of about 210 kilometers.
