Life

Gopi Krishna was born in 1903 in a village near the north Indian city of Srinagar . After several years of regular meditation practice in 1937, at the age of 34, he had a mystical experience unprepared, which is referred to in the traditional Hindu scriptures as the "awakening of the Kundalini " or "the ascension of the Kundalini". According to his own account, he perceived streams of light, heard transcendent sounds and experienced himself as boundless consciousness. This overwhelming experience later formed the basis for a more in-depth systematic examination of the topic. He was particularly interested in the biological principles of Kundalini ascent. In the course of his further life he advocated scientific research into the Kundalini phenomenon.
