Goran Višnjić (born September 9, 1972 in Šibenik , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian actor .

life and career

Goran Višnjić started acting at the age of nine, but it wasn't until the age of 21 that he made his breakthrough through a successful casting for a Croatian production of Shakespeare's Hamlet , in which he then played the role of Laertes. In the following years he won the Croatian Best Actor Award and the Orlando Prize (the Croatian Tony Award ) three times .

In addition to Croatian , he is also fluent in English and French .

His most famous roles are those of Dr. Luka Kovač in the television series Emergency Room and that of Nicole Kidman's lover in The Magical Sisters .

Višnjić is also committed to animal welfare. He is currently a member of the International Fund for Animal Welfare, the Croatian animal welfare group and the PETA ambassador in Eastern Europe.

Goran Višnjić has been married to the sculptor Eva Višnjić since 1999. She is the daughter of director Antun Vrdoljak and sister of the cameraman Vjekoslav Vrdoljak, with whom Višnjić worked for example in 2004 for the world war drama Duga mračna noć (The Long Dark Night) about the Bleiburg massacre . The couple lives in Los Angeles with their children .
