history
In earlier times there were Albanian settlements near Goranboy . On August 8, 1930, the village became the administrative seat of a newly formed rayon named after the communist revolutionary Qasım İsmayılov (1885-1922). From September 8, 1938, the village also bore this name ( Russian Касум-Исмаилов , Kassum-Ismailow ). On July 19, 1958, the place received the status of an urban-type settlement and on August 2, 1966 city rights. Since 1991 the city has been called Goranboy again.
