Geldagan ( Chechen and Russian Гелдаган , also Geldagana, Гелдагана ) is a village (selo) in the Republic of Chechnya in Russia with 12,350 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The place is located in the northeastern edge of the Greater Caucasus about 30 km as the crow flies east-southeast of the republic capital Grozny on the Achko river, which flows into the Sunscha via Gudermes / Belaya .
Geldagan belongs to Rajon Kurtschalojewski and is located about 4 km west-northwest of the administrative center Kurtschaloi . The village is the seat and only locality of the rural municipality Geldaganskoje selskoje posselenije.
history
The place was first mentioned during the Caucasus War from 1817 to 1864 in connection with the capture of the Chechen Aule Geldygen and Awtury (7 km south) by Russian troops on 6/7. January 1852. After the deportation of the Chechen population of the area in 1944, the village was given the Russian name Novaya Shizn ("New Life"), which it kept until the early 1990s, as the old name in its current form, closer to the Chechen, has been restored.

Geldagan is located on the 38 km long regional road that branches off at Mesker-Jurt southeast of Argun , where the nearest train station is also located, from the federal highway R217 Kawkas (formerly M29) following the northern edge of the Caucasus and via Zozin-Jurt - Geldagan - Kurtschaloi - Mairtup leads to Oischara , where the R217 is reached again.
