Mairtup ( Russian Майртуп ; Chechen Майр-Туп ) is a village (selo) in the Republic of Chechnya in Russia with 11,838 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The place is located in the northeastern edge of the Greater Caucasus almost 40 km as the crow flies east-southeast of the republic capital Grozny , at the confluence of the Iskerk in the Gums, a right tributary of the Sunscha called Gudermes and Belaja further downstream .
Mairtup belongs to Rajon Kurtschalojewski and is located approximately 3 km east of the administrative center Kurtschaloi . The village is the seat and only locality of the rural community Mairtupskoje selskoje posselenije.
history
The year the Chechen village was founded is unknown. After the deportation of the Chechen population from the area in 1944, Dargins from the neighboring Dagestani ASSR were settled there, and the village was given the Dargin name of Sulevkent. As part of the return of the Chechens in 1957, the old place name was restored and the Dargins were relocated to a new village called Sulewkent , just under 30 km northeast of Chassavyurt in Dagestan .

Mairtup is located on the 38 km long regional road that branches off at Mesker-Jurt southeast of Argun from the federal highway R217 Kawkas (formerly M29) following the northern edge of the Caucasus and continues via Zozin-Jurt - Geldagan - Kurtschaloi to Oischara , where again the R217 is achieved. The nearest train station is in Gudermes , which can be reached via the neighboring Kurtschaloi.
