Zozin-Yurt ( Russian Цоцин-Юрт ) is a village (selo) in the Republic of Chechnya ( Russia ) with 18,306 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is located on the northern edge of the Greater Caucasus , almost 30 km as the crow flies east-southeast of the republic capital Grozny . The village flows through the Chulchulau, which joins several other rivers below the village to form the Belka, a right tributary of the Sunscha .

Zozin-Yurt belongs to Rajon Kurtschaloi and is located eight kilometers north-west of the administrative center Kurtschaloi .

history

In the Soviet period the place was called Oktyabrskoje. In the Second Chechnya War in particular , Zozin-Yurt was one of the most hotly contested places and hit the headlines above all in the years 2001 to 2003 due to the “clean-up operations” by the Russian armed forces. In 2003, a suicide bomber tried to kill the current Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov in Zozin-Yurt .

Infrastructure

The road that runs from the city of Argun near Grozny to the administrative center of Kurchaloi and the eastern parts of the Rajon with the villages of Zentoroi and Alleroi runs through Zozin-Yurt .
