Gorbitz (desert)
Gorbitz (sometimes also Görbitz) was a desolate settlement in the area of today's city of Leipzig that fell in the Middle Ages .
location
The location of the former village of Gorbitz can be determined by a clear geometric delimitation of the ruderal vegetation. It was located about 5.5 kilometers southeast of medieval Leipzig between the villages of Probstheida and Dölitz, near the eastern edge of today's Lößnig -Dölitz recreation park .
history
Gorbitz was first in 1287 as a small village (villula) Gorbuz mentioned that the monastery of St. Thomas in Leipzig manorial shelter. Its size was given in 1538 as seven yards (Hufen), which also belonged to the St. Thomas Monastery in 1540. But already in 1541 there is talk of the "desert Korbitzer Margk". What led to this rapid devastation is not known. The desert opened up in the Probstheidaer corridor.
Today the Gorbitzer Straße, which leads from Dölitz to Meusdorf near the former location, still reminds of the old village.
