Gordon Battelle
Gordon Battelle (born August 10, 1883 , † September 21, 1923 ) was an American business leader with visionary research interests. He was involved in the metal industry and u. a. Director of a large American rolling mill in Middletown (Ohio) , the Island Steel Co. of Chicago and the Eastern Hocking Coal Co.
After his death, the Battelle Memorial Institute was founded in Ohio on October 3, 1929 with the aim of opening up his research ideas to future generations.
The Battelle Institute sponsored u. a.
- the development of anti-magnetic and rustproof stainless steel alloys

- the Manhattan Project
- the development of herbicides on copper base
- the development of xerography (1944)
- the development of the nickel-metal hydride accumulator
Today Battelle is a global science and technology company with $ 5 billion annual research and development sales.
