The Gorichen (also Gori Chen or Gorichen II ) is a mountain in the Assam Himalayas in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh .

The glaciated mountain has a height of 6488  m . It is located in the Tawang District - about one kilometer south of the border with Tibet . The Kangto ( 7090  m ) is 16.18 km east-northeast. The Gorichen is one of the highest peaks in southeast India. The flanks of the Gorichen are drained by the Tawang Chu , a tributary of the Drangme Chhu .

Ascent history

The Gorichen was first climbed in 1966 by an Indian expedition led by T. Haralu and JC Joshi.

On October 19, 1987 a second ascent of Gorichen was achieved. More followed in the following years.
