The Gossard Canal is a narrow strait with east-west orientation between the Mariner Islands and the Booth Peninsula in the center of the Highjump Archipelago off the coast of the East Antarctic Wilkesland .
It was mapped using aerial photographs taken by the United States Navy during Operation Highjump (1946–1947). The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them after Guy Carleton Gossard Jr. (1916–1989), a crew member on the flights of Operation Highjump for the creation of aerial photographs between 14 ° ( Queen Maud Land ) and 164 ° East longitude ( Victoria Land ) .
