Goswin Karl Uphues

Goswin Karl Uphues (born March 13, 1841 in Brochterbeck , † September 10, 1916 in Halle an der Saale ) was a German philosopher .

Life

Uphues studied philosophy and theology at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster in Westphalia, and in 1867 he became a Roman Catholic clergyman. Until 1876 he worked as an educator and teacher at private schools. After leaving the Catholic Church, he taught at the Cantonal School in Aarau (Switzerland) from 1877 to 1882 . In 1881 he joined the Protestant Church. From 1882 to 1884 he was again a teacher at a private school in Halle an der Saale . In 1884 he completed his habilitation in philosophy at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg , where he was associate professor from 1890 until his death in 1916.
