Gottfried Brandl

Gottfried Brandl (born November 11, 1905 in Knittelfeld , Styria , † May 7, 1988 in Graz , Styria) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ).

Life

After attending primary school and five secondary school classes in Knittelfeld, Gottfried Brandl graduated from a higher forestry school. After taking the state examination , Brandl was a forester by profession. As a young man, Brandl came to Lower Austria , where he found a new home in Heiligenkreuz . In September 1939 he was accepted by the Heiligenkreuz Abbey as a forester, a more administrative activity.

From 1941 to 1945 Brandl also served as a soldier in the Wehrmacht in World War II .

After the war, Brandl was largely responsible for establishing the new Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) in the Baden district and especially in Heiligenkreuz. In February 1951 he was therefore elected mayor of Heiligenkreuz. However, he only held this office for a little over a year, until April 1952.

Brandl then moved back to his Styrian homeland, where he was elected President of the Styrian Chamber of Agriculture in 1952 .

In 1957 he moved to the Landtag of Styria for the ÖVP . He was a member of this group for eight years, until 1965. In April of the same year he was sworn in as a member of the Federal Council in Vienna . As a Federal Councilor, Brandl represented the interests of his home state until May 1970.
