Gottfried Eder
Gottfried Karl Eder O.Cist. (* May 17, 1937 in Heiligenkreuz in Lower Austria; † December 21, 2014 ibid) was a monk and priest in the Heiligenkreuz Abbey , religious teacher in the boys' convent of the Zwettl Abbey and pastor in various incorporated parishes of the Heiligenkreuz Abbey.
Life
Gottfried Eder was born on May 17, 1937 in Heiligenkreuz and baptized with the name Karl. His father died in the war (1942, exactly on Karl's birthday); the mother was a collegiate cook in Heiligenkreuz for decades.
After graduating from high school , he entered the Heiligenkreuz novitiate on September 7, 1957; he made solemn profession on September 8, 1961. He was ordained as a deacon on February 25, 1962 in St. Stephen's Cathedral . On White Sunday 1963 he was ordained a priest by Auxiliary Bishop Jakob Weinbacher in the Heiligenkreuzer Stiftskirche. On May 1, 1963, he celebrated his primacy in this church with a large number of believers.
After his ordination, he was a chaplain in the new monastery and religion teacher in Zwettl. From 1967 to 1982 he was rector of the church in Grub ; In 1982 the pastor Sulz in the Vienna Woods was added.
From 1991 to 2008 he was in charge of the Würflach monastery parish and, in 1997, he also became deputy dean of the Neunkirchen dean's office. He was awarded the silver badge of honor by the political municipality of Würflach. He was also a fire brigade curate in Würflach-Hettmannsdorf.
In 2008 he had to give up his pastoral work due to illness and move to the Heiligenkreuz Abbey, where he died in the monastery infirmary .
Sexual abuse allegations
At the end of 2019, the writer Josef Haslinger went public with the announcement that Father Gottfried, his religion teacher there, had sexually abused him and other boys in the Zwettler Boys' Choir. The Heiligenkreuz abbot Maximilian Heim soon commented on this; in addition to the request for apology and the offer of an interview, it was announced in his statement that in 2011 another former student from Zwettl had accused Father Gottfried of abuse. Sexual assaults by Eder against pupils are a main topic of the book Mein Fall by Josef Haslinger.
