Gottfried Gabriel

Gottfried Gabriel (born October 4, 1943 in Kulm ad Weichsel) is a German philosopher .

Life

Gabriel studied philosophy, German and general linguistics at the Universities of Münster and Konstanz , where he received his doctorate in 1972. From 1967 to 1992 he taught at the University of Konstanz, from 1982 as an adjunct professor. 1986 to 1988 he was visiting professor at the University of Campinas in Brazil . 1992 to 1995 he held a professorship at the Ruhr University Bochum . From 1995 to 2009 he held the chair for logic and philosophy of science at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena . After Joachim Ritter and Karlfried founders, Gabriel is the main editor of the now completed historical dictionary of philosophy . He also gives the Explicatio series together with Rüdiger Zymner . Analytical studies on literature and literary studies out.

Focus

Gabriel's main research interests are epistemology , logic, philosophy of language and aesthetics . His main interest is the establishment of a pluralistic concept of knowledge. According to this, there are different forms of knowledge that range from precise logical argumentation in the sciences to concise aesthetic visualization in literature and art and complement each other to form a comprehensive world orientation.
