Gottfried Geyser

Gottfried Geyser (born April 23, 1699 in Görlitz ; † November 27, 1764 there ) was a German Lutheran theologian.

Life

Geyser had completed his training in his hometown and attended grammar school in Görlitz. On May 5, 1719, he enrolled at the University of Wittenberg , where he acquired the degree of Master of Philosophy on October 17, 1721 . After studying theology, he went to Penzig as a pastor in 1729 , became a deacon in Görlitz in 1735, catechist at the renewed St. George's Chapel in 1737 and pastor of the Trinity Church in 1740, as well as a senior at the ministry .

Geyser is known as an author, but he has also emerged as a productive song writer, which found its way into the Messersdorf and Görlitz hymns. His sons Samuel Gottfried Geyser and Christian Gottlieb Geyser have also gained importance.
