Gottfried IV. (Joinville)
Gottfried IV of Joinville ( French : Geoffroy de Joinville ; † August 1190 before Acre ), called the younger or the servant ("Vaslet"), was Lord of Joinville and probably also the Seneschal of Champagne .
Gottfried was the son of Lord Gottfried III. von Joinville († 1188) and his wife Felicite von Brienne. He inherited the rule of Joinville from his father and presumably also took over the office of seneschal of the Counts of Champagne , although no documents about possible official acts of him in this office have come down to us.
Gottfried gave gifts to several religious institutions in Champagne, partly as reparation for attacks by Gottfried's ancestors. He took the cross with his eldest son in 1189 to take part in the third crusade in the wake of his liege, Count Heinrich II . For the first time, a coat of arms for the Lords of Joinville was handed down on this occasion. Gottfried carried the coat of arms of the Broyes family , as he assumed that the Joinville and Broyes families had common ancestors. Gottfried died during the siege of Acre before the city fell, his body was brought home by his son.
Gottfried was married to Hélius ( Helvide ) from the Dampierre family . Your children were:
- Gottfried V (* before 1173; † 1203/1204 at Krak des Chevaliers ), Lord of Joinville, Seneschal of Champagne
- Robert († probably 1205 in Apulia )
