Gottfried Küenzlen

Gottfried Küenzlen (born February 3, 1945 in Calw ) is a German theologian and sociologist of religion and culture .

Gottfried Küenzlen's research focuses on the history of ideas in modern times, religion and politics, religious fundamentalism , civil religion , new religious movements and business ethics .

Gottfried Küenzlen studied Protestant theology and sociology in Tübingen and Mainz and was ordained pastor of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg in 1972 . With a thesis on Max Weber's sociology of religion with Friedrich H. Tenbruck , he was promoted to Dr. rer. soc. PhD.

With the font Der neue Mensch. He completed his habilitation at the University of Bayreuth for an investigation into the secular history of religion in modern times . From 1982 he was a scientific advisor to the Evangelical Central Office for Weltanschauung questions and from 1991 its deputy director.

In 1994 he was given the chair for Protestant theology with special emphasis on social ethics at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich , which he held until 2010.
