Political and social sciences

Political and social sciences is an interdisciplinary subject that is only offered at the Universität der Bundeswehr München . The subject is divided into two courses: the bachelor's degree and the consecutive master's degree . The degrees are Bachelor or Master of Arts . Like all courses at Bundeswehr universities , it is studied in trimesters (intensive course).

Education

The course, which is an integral part of officer training in the Bundeswehr, is predominantly studied by prospective officers and officers , imparts the basics and in-depth knowledge from core areas of various social and humanities disciplines: political science , history , law , economics , sociology and ethics as well as basic knowledge of social science methods, especially empirical social research and statistics .

Bachelor degree

The bachelor's degree is divided into a basic course (1st to 3rd trimester) and a postgraduate course (4th to 7th trimester). In addition, two “summer modules” have to be taken: at the end of the first year of study, the students write a “ text analysis ”, after the second year of study they usually complete an internship in Germany or abroad or attend a university “ summer school ”.

Undergraduate studies

In the basic course, the methodological and technical basics of the sub-disciplines involved from history, politics and law as well as, in addition and in some cases optionally, ethics, sociology and economics are taught.

Postgraduate studies

After the fourth trimester, “State structures and social change ” or “ International law and politics ” can be selected as specializations in the postgraduate course .

Specialization in international law and politics

In the specialization "International Law and Politics", the focus is on the international dimensions of political science and law: international politics and conflict research on the one hand and international and European law on the other. Contents are u. a. the change in international law from an “interstate law” to a legal system that entitles and obligates the individual , and globalization and regionalization as complementary processes. In addition, students can choose either economics courses or the complementary subjects sociology and ethics.

State structures and social change

In the specialization “State Structures and Social Change” the subjects political science and history are in the foreground. Mandatory come courses added in the subjects of sociology and ethics. The specialization includes political and social characteristics of various heads of state and social systems in history and present and investigate next to their history of ideas and principles. a. social lines of conflict, globalization strategies as well as different patterns and forms of the formation of collective identities .

master's degree

The master’s degree begins in the winter term (January) and lasts a total of 21 months. A master's thesis is written in the fifth and final trimester . The specializations of the bachelor's degree are continued in the master's degree. In so-called supplementary modules, students can largely expand their elective subject according to their study interests.

In the master’s degree, students should be able to develop scientific questions in political science, history, law, economics, sociology and ethics in an interdisciplinary manner and work on them in a practice-oriented, methodical and solution-oriented manner. At the same time, the students should familiarize themselves with the theoretical development and debates of the various disciplines as well as the latest research results.

history

Political and social sciences have existed as an independent course since 1988. In the course of the Bologna Process , the Bachelor course was introduced in 2007 and the Master course in 2010. The last diploma course started in 2006.

The course is carried out by the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences. 17 professors and 25 permanent research assistants research and teach at the faculty  . Together with other employees (e.g. from third-party funds , lecturers and lecturers ), the faculty looks after more than three hundred students in the BA and MA courses. Library

At the University of the Federal Armed Forces Munich there is a sub- library for political and social sciences, which is spatially integrated into the central library of the university library of the University of the Federal Armed Forces Munich .
