Andreas Durst (born April 24, 1966 in Essen ) is a Brigadier General of the Army of the German Armed Forces and has been in command of the 41st Panzer Grenadier Brigade since April 10, 2018 .

Military career

Training and first uses

In 1985 Durst joined the Bundeswehr with the 123rd Panzer Battalion in Kümmersbruck . This was followed by training as an officer in the armored force until 1987 . From 1987 to 1988 Durst was used as a platoon leader in the 4th Company of Panzer Battalion 153 in Koblenz . After he graduated from 1988 to 1991, a study of political and social sciences at the University of the Bundeswehr in Munich . From 1992 to 1993, he was employed as a platoon leader in the 2nd Company and as an S2 officer in the 423 tank battalion in Brück . Thereafter, Durst was used in the same battalion as a company commander of the 6th Company from 1993 to 1995. From 1996 to 1998 Durst was an orderly officer to the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee , General Klaus Naumann , in Brussels , Belgium . This was followed by participation in the 41st General Staff Service / Admiral Staff Service National at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg from 1998 to 2000 .

Service as a staff officer

The first employment as a general staff officer led Durst from 2000 to 2001 as staff officer G2 and G1 operations in the staff IV. Corps in Potsdam , after being reclassified to the operational command of the Bundeswehr until 2002 as staff officer G3 operational planning. Then Durst was transferred to Cologne , where from 2002 to 2004 he was personnel manager for the Army General Staff officers in the personnel office of the Bundeswehr . From 2004 to 2006 he was employed as a ministerial officer at FüH III 1 (basic issues of troop leadership and exercises in the army; multinational cooperation in the army) in the command staff of the army in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn . From 2006 to 2007 Durst was a course participant in the Israeli General Staff Course at the Israel National Defense College in Herzliya , Israel , before he was again in command of the 203rd Panzer Battalion in Augustdorf from 2007 to 2009 . From 2009 to 2011, he was employed again as a consultant in the planning staff of the Federal Minister of Defense in Berlin . Durst was then transferred to Cologne, where he was employed as a group leader / sub-department head of personnel recruitment in the personnel office of the Bundeswehr, or after reclassification in the Federal Office for Personnel Management of the Bundeswehr . From 2014 to 2016 he was in Brussels as Head of NATO Operations and Group Leader NATO on the staff of the German Military Representative in the Military Committee of NATO and the EU Lieutenant General Hans-Werner Wiermann . Another ministerial assignment followed from 2017 to 2018 as Head of Division Strategy and Deployment II 5 (Military Policy, Fundamental Matters, International Interest Representation GenInsp) in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Berlin.

Service as a general

On April 10, 2018, Durst took over from Brigadier General Oliver Kohl of the 41st Panzer Grenadier Brigade.This post was also where he was promoted to Brigadier General in February 2019.
