Sylvia Schraut

Sylvia Schraut (born April 30, 1954 in Mannheim ) is a German historian .

Life

Schraut studied history , German and political science . She received her doctorate from the University of Mannheim in 1990 and her habilitation there in 1994 . From 1997 to 2000 she represented Dieter Langewiesche at the chair for modern history at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . In 2000 she was appointed adjunct professor at the University of Mannheim. At the Ruhr-Universität Bochum she represented Regina Schulte from 2000 to 2003 on the Chair and Latest History with special consideration of gender history. From 2003 to 2004 she was a lecturer in gender history at the University of Basel .

From November 2005 until her retirement at the beginning of 2020, Schaut represented the professorship for modern history at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich , after the holder of the professorship, Merith Niehuss , was appointed president of the university.

Schaut's research areas are the history of industrialization and urbanization, migration , historical cartography , aristocratic history, gender history and political violence, terrorism and gender.

Schraut is the first chairwoman of the Baden-Württemberg Women & History Association and advises the Salmen Talks, where historians, politicians and sociologists discuss current issues and problems against the background of the Offenburg meeting of 1847 . She is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the House of History Baden-Württemberg .
