Thomas Bohrmann

Thomas Bohrmann (* 1965 ) is a German theologian . Since 2008 he has held the professorship for Catholic theology with a focus on applied ethics at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich in Neubiberg , which he had represented since 2004.

Life

After graduating from high school, Bohrmann studied Catholic theology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn from 1985 to 1987 . From 1987 he continued his theology studies at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , which he completed in 1991 with a diploma in theology . At the same time, Bohrmann began a second degree in sociology in 1987 . He also graduated in 1994 with a diploma.

From 1994 to 1997 several internships in advertising and market research followed, among others at the voluntary self-control television (FSF) in Berlin and in the department for youth protection and program advice at Pro Sieben in Munich- Unterföhring. In 1997 Bohrmann did his doctorate with Alois Baumgartner as Dr. theol. with the work ethics - advertising - media violence. Advertising related to violence on television. A socio-ethical program . From 1997 to 2003 he was a research assistant at the chair for Christian social ethics at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. He also lectured in Passau , Friborg and at the Munich University of Applied Sciences. In 2002 Bohrmann completed his habilitation with the text Organized Health. The German health system as a socio-ethical problem . He then taught as a private lecturer and senior scientific assistant at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich at the chair of Alois Baumgartner.

Research priorities

Bohrmann puts his research focus on questions of applied ethics. In particular, this includes questions of media ethics (especially violence in the media), the ethics of advertising and the ethics of the health care system. In addition, the theology and popular culture is a thematic focus in Bohrmann's research.

Since autumn 2009 Thomas Bohrmann has devoted himself intensively to the conceptualization of a military professional ethic . For this purpose, the Research Center for Military Professional Ethics was set up at the Institute for Theology and Ethics of the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich. It has set itself the task of giving important impulses for the content of professional ethical education and training in the German armed forces.
