Gottfried Klier

Gottfried Klier (* 1949 in Zittau ) is a German musician ( saxophone ) and composer .

Klier was born to a refugee family from Karlovy Vary , where his older brother, the director Michael Klier , was born. He studied music in Berlin and worked as a musician in various bands, jazz formations and projects, for example in 1978/79 in the GDR blues rock band Engerling , the MAGO saxophone trio, also with Stephan Krawczyk ( Wie geht's , 1989) and with Marion Schwarzwälder ; he also worked as a lecturer at music colleges. In 1989 he won first prize in the “Neue Tafelmusik” competition and the sponsorship award at the German film music competition in Berlin. He composed music for various line-ups and genres.

His daughter is the photographer and former child actress Nadja Klier (* 1973), the child from his marriage to Freya Klier .
