Michael Klier

Michael Klier (born January 16, 1943 in Karlsbad , Sudetenland ) is a German film director and screenwriter .

life and work

Michael Klier was born in Karlsbad. In 1947 the family fled from what was then Czechoslovakia to Zittau in the Soviet occupation zone ; 1961 then to the Federal Republic of Germany . Klier first learned the profession of theater painter , lived for a few years in Paris and was a footballer . From 1969 he studied philosophy and history at the Free University of Berlin .

Klier made numerous short films and TV portraits, among others about Jean-Marie Straub , Roberto Rossellini , François Truffaut (with whom he was an intern), Claude Sautet , Godard's cameramen and Henri Alekan . For his feature film Ostkreuz he received the Director's Award at the Munich Film Festival, the Bavarian Film Award, the Grimme Award and much more, and for Everywhere It's Better Where We Are Not the Hessian Film Award, the German Film Critics 'Award, and the German Academy of Performing Arts' TV Film Award . Klier was a directing lecturer at the DFFB Berlin , HFF Munich , HFF Babelsberg .

Michael Klier lives in Berlin . His younger brother, the musician Gottfried Klier and father of the photographer Nadja Klier , was married to Freya Klier in the 1970s .
