action

Forty-year-old Victor Faber lives in West Berlin and works in information technology . He develops and monitors computer programs for corporations and banks. He leads his life withdrawn in a self-chosen solitude. Only with his long-time girlfriend Renate does Faber occasionally go to the theater or to exhibitions.

On the occasion of a vernissage , Faber and the actress Juliet get to know each other in a gallery. Juliet came there with her boyfriend Melo. Melo expresses an intense interest in Faber's specialist knowledge of computer programs. A few days after the vernissage, Faber receives an invitation to dinner from Juliet. A love affair can be seen between the two protagonists.

Parallel to this course of action, Melo is intensively pursuing the idea of having the daily differences from the rounding off to a Swiss account with the help of a manipulation in the banking system . After initial hesitation, Faber got involved in this coup and opened an account in Zurich .

The prerequisite for this manipulation is a break-in at the bank, which is organized by Melo. Only then can Faber take action. But the burglars shoot a security guard and an unplanned fate takes its course.

backgrounds

Rudolf Thome quotes the film La femme qui pleure in long sequences . (The woman who cries) by his French colleague Jacques Doillon . Dominique Laffin also stars in this 1978 film .

Several sequences of the film were shot in real, recognizable locations in Zurich . For example, Faber goes shopping at the Weinberg fashion store on Bahnhofstrasse , or walks with Juliet through Zurich-Kloten Airport . There Faber gets on a Saurer bus on VBZ line 68 with the posted destination “Hauptbahnhof” - this line, which existed at the time, was shortened in 1980 with the introduction of the rail connection to Zurich HB and to VBG line 768. At the beginning of the film is Faber can also be seen in real Berlin . While strolling through Charlottenburg (at the light rail arches at Savignyplatz and at the corner of Knesebeckstrasse), Faber passed a bookstore where he saw Juliet for the first time. An art bookshop has actually been located there since 1980. The lettering of a branch of the Berlin specialist dealer Blumen-Hübner that existed at the time is also visible. Later he has fun with Juliet at the Europa Center .

Reviews

“The film […], technically brilliantly staged, is not only an exciting thriller and a subdued triangular melodrama, but also a thoughtful discourse about fantasy and reality - in the cinema as in life. Rich in details and individual observations, which can assert their intrinsic value even without being involved in the dramaturgy of the story, he carefully explores the living spaces of his characters, leaving them plenty of room to develop their dreams and yet clearly referring to their being caught in the diverse system of perception and the Feelings.
