Johanna Perl was always busy all her life. The former top athlete became a swimming coach after her career. But since she retired, she feels empty. Johanna had been betrayed and abandoned by her former husband. She starts talking to Trees and her dead mother before one day replying to a personal ad from the writer Johannes. In a newspaper advertisement, Johannes is looking for a woman who for him is "sister, mother, saint, whore, companion and lover", and Johanna wants to be that for him. Inspired by her own daughter Sophia, who is getting married in a rush, she lets Johannes move into her apartment after a short acquaintance. At first it still insists on a formal distance. They both sleep in separate bedrooms and address each other with a formal "you".

But the distance crumbles, the two approach each other, and Johanna becomes Johannes' muse. The unsuccessful writer, who has already written four novels but has not yet been able to publish one, can finally celebrate the great success he longed for. With "You said that you love me" he anticipates the crisis in his relationship by writing and lands a great bestseller. In the intoxication of his success, he cheats on Johanna with another woman. But after Johanna drove him briefly, she thinks about it and gives him a second chance. Johannes and Johanna get married and go on their honeymoon in Spain.
