Gottfried Klimbt

In 1958 Klimbt reached the finish line at Rund um den Friedrichshain as the final runner in the victorious season of Dynamo Berlin .

Gottfried Klimbt (born January 8, 1935 in Bernsdorf near Zwickau; † August 3, 2016  in Mönchengladbach ) was a track and field athlete in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). He won three GDR championship titles in the 400-meter run .

Life

Gottfried Klimbt started for SC Dynamo Berlin . At the GDR championships in 1957 he won over 400 meters in 48.5 seconds and 3: 18.5 minutes with the 4 x 400 meter relay of Dynamo Berlin, in which he was the final runner until 1962. In 1958 he repeated these two victories in 47.9 s and 3: 12.6 min. In 1959 Klimbt was disqualified in the final over 400 meters, but won his third title in a row with the relay. In 1960 Klimbt lost the individual final in 47.0 s against Karl Storm , who set a new GDR record in 46.9 s. At the GDR championships in 1961, Klimbt stood in three finals: He won over 400 meters in 48.0 s, finished second behind Herbert Widera in the 400-meter hurdles in 52.1 s and won 3 in the Berlin relay: 12.7 min. In 1962 Klimbt won again with the relay.

Gottfried Klimbt was the first 400-meter runner in the GDR to be three times champion in the 400-meter run, after him Wolfgang Müller from Potsdam succeeded ; in the 1980s, Thomas Schönlebe then won five times. Apart from Klimbt, only Wolfgang Müller won five championship titles with the relay. Klimbt also set two GDR records. In 1961 he set Karl Storm's record in 46.9 s, and in 1962 he improved the record to 46.8 s.

Gottfried Klimbt was a trained confectioner.
