Gottfried Korff

Gottfried Korff (born May 9, 1942 in Düsseldorf ) is a German folklorist and cultural scientist .

After studying history, ethnology and art history in Cologne, Bonn and Tübingen, he worked at museums in Bonn and Berlin. From 1978 to 1982 he worked as general secretary of the Prussian exhibition in Berlin's Martin-Gropius-Bau .

From 1982 until his retirement, Korff was Professor of Empirical Cultural Studies at the University of Tübingen at the Ludwig Uhland Institute . He also held visiting professorships in Vienna and Zurich.

His main topics are museology , symbol analysis, popular piety and culture of remembrance .

Among other things, in 2012 he sat on the scientific advisory board of the Military History Research Office .
