Hermann Bausinger
Hermann Bausinger (born September 17, 1926 in Aalen ) is a German cultural scientist and Germanist .
Life
Hermann Bausinger completed his studies in German , English , history and folklore in 1952 with a state examination and doctorate at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen , followed by his habilitation in 1959 . The subject of his habilitation thesis was folk culture in the technical world . In it, he argued for a reorientation (coming to terms with the National Socialist past, turning away from the understanding of folk culture at the time and research focusing on the present) of the subject of folklore. From 1960 he was professor for folklore in Tübingen . He expanded his chair for folklore to become the Ludwig Uhland Institute for Empirical Cultural Studies , of which he was director until his retirement in 1992. The cultural scientist Wolfgang Kaschuba and the ethnologist Karl Braun are among his students.
His research focuses on everyday culture , narrative research , regional studies and cultural and social history .
He is co-editor of the Encyclopedia of Fairy Tales and of Klöpfer & Meyers Small State Library . He is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Suevica - Contributions to Swabian literary and intellectual history.
Bausinger is considered to be one of the leading figures in German post-war folklore, who, with his departure from folk life (the title of an anthology), ushered in a programmatic turn towards empirical cultural studies , which ultimately also gave rise to the renaming of the Tübingen Institute.
