Gottfried Ludolf Graßmann (born April 3, 1738 in Landsberg an der Warthe , † August 31, 1798 in Sinzlow ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman and agricultural writer.

Life

Born as the son of the mayor of Landsberg an der Warthe, he studied theology. He got his first job in Wittmannsdorf near Luckau . Then he switched to the position of preacher at the workhouse in Stargard in Pomerania . In 1768 he finally became pastor of Sinzlow and Kortenhagen in the Kolbatz office ; he held this pastorate until his death.

An extensive agriculture belonged to Graßmann's pastor's office, which stimulated him to deal with agricultural science topics . He published the "Berlin Contributions to Agriculture Science", which appeared periodically from 1774, and several individual publications. In recognition of his services to agriculture, he was appointed government commissioner for regional cultural affairs.

Graßmann was married twice and had several children. His son Justus Günther Graßmann (* 1779, † 1852) became a high school teacher in Stettin and published articles in the fields of mathematics and crystallography. His children include the mathematician Hermann Graßmann (* 1809; † 1877) and the Stettin newspaper publisher and philosophical writer Robert Graßmann (* 1815; † 1901).
