Gottfried Lumper

Gottfried Lumper (born February 9, 1747 in Füssen , † March 8, 1800 in Villingen ) was a German Catholic theologian .

life and work

Gottfried Lumper occurred after the first studies in Ochsenhausen 1764 the Congregation of the Benedictine St. Georgen in Villingen at. From 1770 to 1771 he was sent to St. Gallen to learn the French language. After his ordination in 1771, he only left the cloister to look after the parish in Pfaffenweiler that was entrusted to the monastery. He taught as a professor at the monastery high school and rose to its prefect and prior of the monastic community. Lumpers most important work was a thirteen-volume representation of the writings of the Church Fathers, Historia theologico-critica de vita, scriptis atque doctrina sanctorum patrum, 13 volumes, Augsburg 1783 - 1799.
