Gottfried Schwab

Gottfried Schwab (born June 26, 1851 in Darmstadt , † March 2, 1903 in Neu-Wittelsbach near Munich ) was a German poet and writer of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

life and work

Gottfried Schwab was the son of the merchant Wilhelm Schwab and was born in 1851 in his parents' office building on the White Tower in Darmstadt. After finishing school, Schwab lived in Switzerland for four years . His main interest was art and nature. Schwab became known especially for his patriotic poems .

Gottfried Schwab was buried in the old cemetery in Darmstadt (grave site: IV wall 116).

Gottfried Schwab's friend, the composer Arnold Mendelssohn , set several of his poems to music.
