Gottfried Weigle
Gottfried Hartmann Weigle (* 1816 in Zell am Neckar , † 1855 in Mangalore , West India) was a German missionary and linguist .
Weigle studied in Tübingen theology , in 1838 he joined the Basel Mission to. From 1840 on he was a missionary in the southwest of India , in the area of what is now the state of Karnataka . He was related to Pauline F. Mögling. Weigle born Bacmeister (1825–1861) married.
He has devoted himself in particular to research into the Kannada (Canarian) language, which belongs to the Dravidian language family, and its literature. The text of the song Drunten im Unterland comes from him .
