Wilhelm Seemann (full name Gottfried Wilhelm Seemann ; born February 8, 1793 in Heringen near Nordhausen , † 1859 ) was a German clarinetist . Due to his artistic achievements he was one of the outstanding military musicians of his time.

Life

Gottfried Wilhelm Seemann worked in the early years of the Kingdom of Hanover as music director for the Guard Hunters .

On March 12, 1818, Seemann was accepted into the orchestra of the Hanoverian court orchestra. With the title of royal court and chamber musician, he was - like the other orchestra members - committed to public opera and concert service. According to the Hanoverian address book for the year 1819 , the “court musician” had taken up residence at 819 Köbelingerstraße as the only person to bear the name Seemann in the city at the time. Only a little later, at the latest in 1826, he moved into house number 815 on the same street; but now there was also a "seaman, widow, guest host, apart from the Aegidienthore ".

Seemann performed as a soloist and virtuoso on numerous concert tours in Germany and abroad.

From 1831 he worked under the composer and conductor Heinrich Marschner in Hanover. There he was released into retirement on October 1, 1850.
