Gotthard Hofstädter
Gotthard Hofstädter (born March 11, 1826 in Bad Hall , † July 29, 1864 in Kremsmünster ) was an Austrian Benedictine and naturalist.
life and work
Josef Hofstädter joined Kremsmünster Abbey in 1844 and was ordained a priest in 1849 . He studied at the University of Vienna . After completing his studies, he taught natural sciences at the collegiate high school. Hofstädter investigated among other things the paraffin oxidation by means of nitric acid , whereby he received succinic acid as the main product. In addition, he published studies on zoological and botanical topics.
