Life

Rieger, the son of a professional officer, was a books, art and music dealer at the beginning of his professional life. He then worked in Germany for a record company and was discovered by the Hessischer Rundfunk as a talent for radio.

In 1972 he switched to Ö3 and moderated programs such as “Ö3 Wecker”, “Magazin”, “Treffpunkt Studio 4”, “Hard Rock Café” and many others. For the ORF regional studio in Vienna he was the spokesperson for “Dance Music to Order” and for television he presented “GR's Rockshow” (1987–1989). With the designation "GR" it became a "brand" in the 80s, and not only on Ö3. With around 15 years of moderation at Ö3-Wecker, Rieger is one of those moderators who most often brought this program closer to the audience.

On March 31, 1990, Gotthard Rieger started broadcasting Radio CD International on 101.8 MHz. Due to the ORF monopoly , the station had to broadcast from Pressburg . Radio CD lost its frequency for the first time in late 1993 .

In the 1990s Gotthard Rieger was also active on other private radio stations. In addition to Antenne Graz, GR also worked for Antenne Wien and PL1.

In 1999 he came to Radio Niederösterreich and moderated “Radio Niederösterreich am Afternoon” and the “Radioclub” there until the end of 2010.

Rieger also managed the Austrian hard rock band No Bros .

After his retirement in early 2011, Gotthard Rieger continued to work as a moderator at model making events (Vienna, St. Pölten, Styria).

On the occasion of 50 years of Ö3 , Rieger was able to bring his time as the Austrian cult presenter from the 1970s to the 1990s closer to an audience of millions in June 2017.
