Gotthard Schafelner
Gotthard Schafelner OSB (born June 2, 1938 in St. Valentin ) is the emeritus abbot of the Lambach monastery .
Life
Born as Johann Schafelner, he entered the Benedictine Abbey of Lambach as a novice in 1961 , where he took the religious name Gotthard. Schafelner was ordained a priest in 1965. After being appointed prior by his abbot in 1973, he was elected 58th abbot in 1986, an office which he continued until 2008. On 23 June 1986 he received by Maximilian Aichern the benediction , commonly known as "Abtweihe".
From 1964 to 1968 he studied agriculture and forestry at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna .

- 2006: Great Silver Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria
