Thank God Bachmann
Gottlob Bachmann (born March 26, 1763 in Bornitz near Zeitz , today part of Elsteraue ; † April 10, 1840 in Zeitz) was a German composer and organist .
Life
He began to study harmony and piano music under Frech in Zeitz, until he went to Leipzig in 1785 to study counterpoint . In 1790 Bachmann moved to Dresden to become a student of Johann Gottlieb Naumann . A year later, in 1791, Bachmann was employed as organist in Zeitz.
Works
Bachmann is only known to a few people today, mostly through his setting of the Erlkönig . (op.43)
However, he also wrote extensive operas such as Don Silvio de Rosaiva or Orpheus and Eurydice , but also many songs and instrumental pieces . Bachmann wrote trios , quintets for the piano , violin , viola , flute and violoncello, but also quartets and orchestral music .
