The Goward peak is approximately 500 m high and sharp mountain on the West Antarctic Rothschild Island . In the Desko Mountains it rises immediately east of the Fournier Ridge .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him after Richard F. Goward of the United States Coast Guard , officer on duty aboard the USCG Glacier icebreaker for Operation Deep Freeze in 1969.
